Chicago, Illinois
3.1 million sf
This 3.1 million SF prototype for mixed-use development is a "first" and rises 74 stories from a block square base. A distinctive, veined marble exterior sheathes the building. 133 stores are wrapped around a central atrium where escalators and glass elevators lend a dynamic quality to the space. The visually unobstructed retail space invites shoppers to explore beyond their original destination, increasing traffic flow.

Water Tower Place also houses the 22-story, 400-room Ritz Carlton Hotel; 40 floors with 260 luxury condominiums; 200,000 SF of office space; parking for 640 cars; the Carlton Club; and several popular restaurants. To this day, the condominiums set the standard for luxury residences in the city. Ranging in size from 1,800 SF to over 3,400 SF, units contain from two to four bedrooms and include luxury features that maintain the highest levels in resale values.

This award-winning development has become a primary destination point for shoppers as well as national and international visitors.  It is the cornerstone of Chicago’s famed Michigan Avenue retail district. Since its inception, Water Tower Place has brought substantial investment to the area, serving as the primary catalyst for Michigan Avenue’s phenomenal growth.

Water Tower Place was the world’s tallest reinforced concrete building through 1989.
